ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The workshop takes you on a journey, where you get to learn about the history of dyeing and assimilate the fundamentals of natural dyeing. Together, we will explore the existence of natural colors and soak in techniques to extract the yellows, orange, brown, pink, blue, red and greens from around us.
Divided into three different segments - Natural Dyeing, Shibori Tie Dye, and Block Printing DIY introduces you to a contemporary and unique world of dyeing traditions.
You will have the opportunity of interacting and engaging with experts who have been practicing these arts for generations. you get to experiment with a plethora of natural colors readied especially for the workshop. We can guarantee that you go home spattered, inspired and ready to make your own explorations through color with natural dyes.
As part of this workshop, all participants will be provided with all necessary apparatus and materials to create + take home a dyed organic garment specially designed for the workshop. To make the workshop all the more special, participants can bring as much fabric, cloth, garments as they want to dye during the workshop.
We make sure that you spruce up your wardrobe while relaxing with friends at the workshop.
Dating back more than 5000 years, Dyeing has been one of the most primitive forms of art known to mankind. Humans discovered that there were many unique options to give color to the cloth, there so they started dipping the clothes into colored dyes to get a beautiful natural-colored outfit. As man evolved, we made scientific achievements and started synthesizing these colors from chemicals. Today thousands of years later, the textile industry has become a major source of pollution throughout the world. Synthetic colors account for a huge chunk of this pollution.
At DIY, our main objective is to revive the lost art of dyeing with natural ingredients and to make it readily available for everyone. And therein we aim to reduce the impact of pollution caused by the chemical-laden industry. To do so, we must take a step back and acquaint ourselves with the lost art of natural dyeing.
